About ArmorArmy.com
Our Mission
ArmorArmy.com was founded with a simple yet powerful mission: to help operators everywhere make smarter decisions, through approachable guidance and free tools that make choosing an armor level, weighing a plate carrier, sizing ballistic plates, and planning a loadout clearer, more rewarding, and more practical.
We believe that everyone who relies on protective gear, from first-time buyers to seasoned professionals, deserves access to accurate tools, comprehensive resources, and trustworthy guidance. Our platform bridges the gap between confusing specifications and confident, well-informed decisions about armor levels and loadout planning, plate carriers and ballistic plates, MOLLE and chest rigs, armor testing and NIJ threat ratings, tactical gear, and gearing up smart.
Through our free collection of tools, we help operators make informed decisions about armor levels, plate sizes, plate carrier and gear weights, MOLLE capacity, loadout totals, and ballistic threat ratings. Every tool is designed with real-world applicability in mind, tested against the day-to-day realities of choosing, sizing, and building a loadout, and continuously improved based on user feedback. To go deeper, explore our Armor & Protection museum, with galleries on historic armor and ballistic milestones, modern plate carriers and helmets, vests and chest rigs, and the engineering behind every great piece of gear.
Our Story
ArmorArmy.com emerged from a need we experienced firsthand. While trying to sort through conflicting advice and scattered specifications, we noticed a common challenge: the lack of accessible, accurate tools for the everyday decisions that come with choosing body armor, running the numbers on a loadout, and building protection that actually fits.
Smart gear selection relies heavily on curiosity and a little know-how, which are invaluable. However, a confident operator also benefits from clear answers about what an NIJ level really stops, how heavy a plate carrier gets, what plate size fits a given torso, how much a MOLLE field can hold, and which armor rating defeats a given threat. We saw an opportunity to combine well-researched protective-gear knowledge with modern tools to help people make confident decisions about every setup.
Our team began developing tools that we wished existed when we bought our first plates and carriers. Each calculator and guide was created to solve real problems encountered when comparing armor levels, sizing a plate, or planning a loadout. We tested every tool against published standards, refined the logic based on feedback, and ensured that the results reflected current, widely accepted protective-gear practice.
Today, ArmorArmy.com serves active users worldwide, from first-time buyers to lifelong tactical-gear enthusiasts. Our tools have helped people decode NIJ levels, weigh plate carriers, size plates, plan MOLLE fields, total loadouts, and match threats to protection, and make more deliberate, confident decisions about their gear.

Our Expertise
ArmorArmy.com’s tools and guides are developed and maintained by a team with extensive protective-gear experience across multiple areas:
- Armor Levels & Ratings: Experience with NIJ protection levels, soft armor and hard plates, and helping people understand what a rating actually protects against.
- Plates & Fit: Specialized knowledge of SAPI/ESAPI plate cuts, sizing, and the fitting that turns a spec sheet into protection that covers the vitals.
- Carriers & Load-Carrying: Expert understanding of plate carriers, MOLLE, chest rigs, and the smart layout that keeps a loadout balanced and reachable.
- Gear Weight: Comprehensive experience with plate weights, loadout totals, and the load bands that keep gear sustainable to wear.
- Threats & Testing: Practical knowledge of ballistic threats, armor testing, and the standards that define what stops what.
- Research Collaboration: Ongoing reliance on authoritative standards and reputable industry resources.
Our team includes experienced enthusiasts, professionals, writers, and reviewers who bring years of combined experience to tool development. We regularly consult industry references and trusted experts to ensure our content reflects current best practices. Our content is general informational and educational content, NOT professional safety, legal, or ballistic-protection advice; results vary — body armor is regulated in some regions, so always check the laws that apply to you, buy only certified gear, and verify any rating with the manufacturer and against the NIJ standard before making decisions. No armor guarantees safety.
Looking Forward
The future of protective gear lies in the intelligent combination of curiosity and proven know-how with modern tools and clear knowledge. At ArmorArmy.com, we’re committed to staying at the forefront of this evolution.
Our development roadmap includes expanded tools for armor selection, loadout planning, plate sizing, and gear comparison. We’re also working on multilingual support to serve the global community of operators better, and developing specialized guidance for different roles, threat environments, and ways of building a loadout more deliberately.
Most importantly, we remain committed to keeping our tools free and accessible. As we grow, we’ll continue to prioritize user needs, ensuring that everyone has access to practical armor tools regardless of their budget.
